LEVEL 5: Stroke Refinement
At this level, swimmers refine their strokes even further and learn techniques such as open turns and sidestrokes
Key points about Level 5 Stroke Refinement:Focus on technique: The primary goal is to refine the mechanics of each stroke, paying close attention to body position, arm movements, leg kick, and breathing patterns. 

Advanced skills: Swimmers will likely learn more complex maneuvers like flip turns on front and back, deeper dives, and potentially sculling techniques.  

Increased distance: Compared to previous levels, swimmers will be expected to swim longer distances in each stroke.

Prerequisites: To enter Level 5, swimmers should already be comfortable with all basic strokes and be able to swim short distances with reasonable proficiency. 

*CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 8 MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY A PARENT/GUARDIAN.

Session Break down
  • Level 5: Stroke Refinement
  • Samuel V. Arroyo Recreation Center
  • Beginning December 2, 2024 to March 8, 2025
  • Sessions available: Registrants must select a day and participate on the registered re-occurring days only)
  • Every Wednesday, 5:00pm to 5:45pm
  • Must register at one location and remain active through out the session. Each location will host its own separate programming.

Important Things to know!
  • Swimming assessments will be held at your local pool to determine your swimmer's ability
  • Please arrive 15 minutes before the class start time.
  • Proper swimming attire required
  • Swimmers at this level should be comfortable in the water and able to perform basic swimming movements independently.
  • The focus is on refining stroke mechanics and building endurance for short distances.
  • Instructors may use kickboards and other training aids to help students practice specific stroke components.
  • Depending on the program, Level 3 might also introduce basic underwater swimming skills.

Swimming Lesson Guide
What might a Level 5 swimming lesson include:

Drill work: Specific drills to target specific aspects of stroke technique, like hand entry, body rotation, or leg kick.

Stroke analysis: Using video or instructor feedback to identify areas for improvement

Flip turn practice: Practicing proper entry and exit techniques for turning at the wall

Deep water skills: Learning to perform surface dives from different positions

Endurance training: Gradually increasing the distance swum in each stroke

LEVEL 6: Swimming and Skill Proficiency:
In this final level, swimmers demonstrate their proficiency in a range of aquatic activities, including swimming, diving, and rescue techniques.
